WHY WE ARE SPECIAL TO BATES
We are special to Bates because we empower students to make substantive and noticeable
changes through an effective representative body.
ACTIVITIES WE SPONSOR
As the student government, we do not sponsor any events in particular. However, through
the allocation of money we help to make possible many of the events that occur throughout
the year.
OPPORTUNITIES
Representative Assembly
During your first dorm/house meeting, you will select at least one student to represent
your dorm/house in the RA, or you can run to be one of five students who will represent
your class year in the RA.
Even if you are not elected into the RA, you are welcome to attend meetings to voice your
opinions.
Purpose The Bates College Student Government (BCSG) is the student government of Bates College. It consists of the Representative Assembly (RA,) the Executive Council (EC,) and various committees. The RA consists of elected representa-tives from each class and housing unit. The EC consists of the president, vice presidents, treas-urer, and a representative from each advisory committee. Committees are open to BCSG members and non-BCSG members alike. At weekly public meetings, members act as repre-sentatives of the student body, voicing concerns and support, engaging in advocacy, and articu-lating student interests. This continues outside the weekly meetings through the work of nearly forty committees (ten ad hoc committees.) These committees determine policies in areas ranging from academics to parking, discipline to residential life, and much more. The BCSG ad-ministers over $350,000, allocating the money amongst various organizations.
